Martin Kimberly - Barrie Ontario:
Two years ago, I was invited to see a band play at a Club in Barrie.
I heard they were doing a Whitesnake and Thin Lizzy tribute.
I had played with one of the guitar players in a band years ago, and I was excited to hear them.
They were absolutely on the fire that night.
Brothers Gary and Mark Alex handled the drums and guitar work with incredible passion and control.
Brian was on bass, and did an absolutely incredible job on vocals for the Thin Lizzy tunes.
Des rounded out the 3 guitar attack for the Thin Lizzy portion of the evening., and Darren James Smith
provided spectacular vocals during the Whitesnake set. All in all, I would have to give the event a Spinal Tap "11" .........

WRT is quite possibly one of the biggest names in the Tribute scene. They hand pick some of the best music to perform live. At this point, if you haven't seen them perform, then my guess is you stay home and don't go out. That's a shame.

What does WRT stand for? Whiskey Rose Tributes. That's badass rock and roll, right? That's who they are! Google it. You'll soon see what I mean.

There's flash and costumes. Good tributes try to completely bring you the experience of being live at the original's shows. There's another side to this - the music. Let me introduce you to the idea that if the music is spot on - you get the exact same experience. Don't believe me? Try it for yourself.

The first set here is their Scorpions Tribute. Any of the Scorpions hits you can think of got played in this set. I love Scorpions and have fond memories attached to most of their songs (true rock fans understand). You simply close your eyes and you're right there. Open your eyes again and enjoy the experience of one of the best tributes to the music you could expect.

WRT is best known for the performance that started the entire ball rolling. Their DIO tribute brings the crowds every time. It's like a cult following. This is probably what they're best known for - the flawless performance of Ronnie James' Sabbath and DIO.

I'm not going to lie to you. WRT is one of the most masterfully crafted live performances I've seen to date. There's perfection solidly entrenched in an almost fanatical sense in their music. They either practice almost non-stop, or they're just that god damn good.

Yes they are god damned good.

Ok. This is what I came to see. Whitesnake as performed by my all time favorite tribute band (Whiskey Rose) in the perfectionism that these guys are known for.

I say they do this with an excellent degree of accuracy - they take it seriously - but they also bring it relaxed. I know it sounds weird, but this isn't garage band quality performance, just the cozy and friendly feel behind it.

I cover these guys a lot. For good reason. They're quite possibly the best performers I've heard and seen live.

I've said it before and I still think this is true: As a tribute band you have to be 200% better than the originals, or nobody believes what you're trying to perform.

WRT's productions bring that 200% effort rain or shine, and yet to watch them play you'd never believe how dedicated they are to their sound.

It'll be an interesting year for live music with these guys on the scene.
